The origins and craft traditions of the scenic artist are both ancient and enduring.
It is the hope of the Art of the Hollywood Backdrop LLC that a future host might
have the financial capacity to underwrite the construction of this portable scenic artist’s studio.
Inspired by Georges Méliès studio in Montreuil, France, this demonstration greenhouse workspace would occupy a 22’ x 48’ footprint containing a 24’ x 10’ paint frame. Engineered to be setup and taken down quickly, it could be erected in a building’s central atrium, large room, courtyard, or garden.
This paint studio would provide visitors with an immersive workspace where they can observe and interact with master scenic artists while they are painting commissioned backings that can be given to the host’s community. Schools, public buildings, and common spaces could all benefit from these mural-sized artworks while providing positive social, educational, and media interactions between the host museum and its community.
